WALKS ACROSS KOPAONIK NATIONAL PARK

Summer

Summer

Mt. Kopaonik : factory of red and white blood cells
Due to its rarefied air with reduced partial pressure, the mountainous climate has more medicinal effects on the human organism than the climate at the seaside. It catalyzes deep breathing and increases the number of red blood cells, depending on the sea level, and these conditions are most ideal on Mt. Kopaonik , which is rightfully called the factory of red blood cells.

A visit to this mountain is recommended to those who suffer from asthma and to smokers because it completely eliminates asthmatic fits and smoking bronchitis. Children who often visit Mt. Kopaonik are better adept at physical activities – and that is the same reason professional athletes are frequent guests at the most famous tourist resort in Serbia .

The Pančić Mausoleum
The Pančić Peak
Walks to Mt. Kopaonik’s highest point at 2,017 meters above sea level and tours of the monument dedicated to Josif Pancic, botanist, physician and the man who gained world fame for discovering a rare species of spruce, Serbian spruce - Picea omorika (Pancic) Purkyne - on Mt. Tara. Tours of the cupolas of one of the most modern European radar centers up until the time of NATO bombing and of the mining shafts on this summit are also planned.

Marko’s Rock

"Markova stena"
- (Marko’s Rock) awe-inspiring granite boulders. Walking through an interesting community of Norwegian spruce, moss and other vegetation along the Samokovska River, one comes to a fascinating location featuring giant boulders of granite rock.

Heaven’s Chairs
"Nebeske Stolice" (Heaven’s Chairs)
This is a walking tour all those who enjoy history and archaeology would find very interesting, as it embraces touring (with a expert guide) an archaeological find and restored remains of an Orthodox Christian church built at the highest altitude above sea level in the Balkans.

HALF-DAY OUTINGS

A holy place "Metođe"
Geyser – a holy place, Metodje – picnic
As this is one of the more demanding distance tours, inexperienced and unfit mountaineers are recommended to use the easier version that includes partial transportation means to reach the sharp curve on the 14th kilometer of the Mt. Kopaonik-Brzece road, where the road to Metodje separates. From there, walking is resumed by taking a marked hiking trail that reaches the geyser after 45-minute. Metodje is a folk holy place, on the spot where allegedly salubrious water gushes from a rock bluff.

Kadijevac
Kadijevac – picnic
(Learning about the flora and fauna of Mt. Kopaonik and feeding on fruits of nature)
Touring an archaeological and mining site, a place favored by all those who come to Mt. Kopaonik. This is a picnic area that traditionally rallies several thousand people each year on July 7. This implies resting and feeding on fruits of nature by the cold and clear water of the mountain river just several kilometers away from the center of the Suncani Vrhovi and JAT Apartment complexes.

ALL-DAY OUTINGS

"Happy Swoop Down"
Rafting on the Ibar River – "Happy Swoop Down"
(With tour of medieval city of Maglic)
A traditional event rallying each year several hundred rafts and several thousand adventure-happy people bent on having a good time. This well-organized and safe ‘happening’ starts near the medieval Serbian city of Maglic and ends at Kraljevo. During the recess period, as tradition demands, all participants visit the Mataruška Banja spa for a free of charge bowl of Serbian style cooked beans.
